Water Resources Analysis of a River System
Dr. Peter Shanahan of HydroAnalysis provided expert testimony in the lawsuit Florida v. Georgia, Original No. 142, a dispute over water use in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin, before the U.S. Supreme Court. HydroAnalysis completed a comprehensive analysis of flow within the basin, which is regulated by reservoirs operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Among other questions, we assessed claims that water in the Flint River could be used to compensate for water from the Chattahoochee River used to supply the Atlanta metropolitan area and developed a water-balance model to understand the basin’s hydrology. That model provided key insights and showed that claims that increased water use by Atlanta could be compensated by decreased use on the Flint River were erroneous.
The project was completed for the Florida Department of the Environment in association with the law firm of Latham & Watkins.
